The Sikorsky HO4S Chickasaw was the U.S. Navy's designation of the H-19 Chickasaw.

Besides civilian use, it saw large scale use with the U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines, and the U.S. Air Force.  All U.S. services would use the H-19 Chickasaw in many roles and variants.  The H-19 Chickasaw and its many variants would see service in the Korean War, during the Cold War, on carrier use, in artic research, search and rescue duties, mail and parts run, and carrying troops to the battlefield.

Most people today call the H-19...an H-19, without realizing its many different designations.  Prior to 1962, it was designated several different way's depending on what service was using it.  The U.S. Army and U.S. Airforce designation were called H-19, while the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard Variants were designated HO4S, and U.S. Marine versions designated HRS.  During the 1962 redesignation of Military aircraft, all Chickasaws would be designated H-19.

HO4S Chickasaw

The HO4S was the U.S. Navy version and saw service during The Korean War and during the Cold War years of the 1950's and 1960's.  The HO4S would see service on U.S. Navy carriers and support ships, as well as be seen at many land-based Naval Air Stations throughout the world.   The HO4S's would be used for utility work, search and rescue, and logistical movements, providing the U.S. Navy with invaluable service.  The last active U.S. Navy Chickasaw, a CH-19E, retired in 1969.  The HO4S Chickasaw is a very forgotten variant today!

The HO4S Chickasaw came in many attractive colors and interesting markings!
