American Airlines flew the Boeing 707 from 1959 until 1979, which it launched on its Los Angeles to New York route as the first scheduled nonstop transcontinental jetliner service operated by any airline. The Boeing 707 was developed as a long range, intercontinental, narrow body aircraft that could carry approximately 200-passengers, and has not only been credited with having initiated the jet age, it was also the most popular jetliner of its time.
